The UkrSA Comission "Children and caves" web-page

Editors board of the UkrSA “The Light” magazine and UkrSA Commission "Children and Caves" are announcing the 10th International Contest of Kid’s Drawing "Caves in the Eyes of our Children".

To participate in the competition young artists are invited to take part. Competition will be held in four age groups: to 6 years old, 7-9 years old, 10-12 years old, 13-16 years old.

Submit no more than 3 drawings from one author for the competition. The works can be sent from February 15th to April 30th 2022. The jury, consisting of 5 members, will select the winners of the competition by May 15th  2022.

As during the previous years, the main content of the artworks will be caves and everything related to them.

But to honour the 30th anniversary of the USA, it is planned to republish a book-story "Cool stories of an old caver." by Valery Yanovich Rogozhnikov. Therefore, the participants of the oldest group (13-16 years old) are invited to participate in the creation of illustrations for this book. It is possible that the best works based on the stories will be used for the design of this collection.

Both drawings and scanned copies of drawings will be eligible to take part in the contest. It is also recommended that the authors send their own photos, if possible on the background of the caves. These photos will be posted on the website of the Committee of "Children and the Caves" next to the picture of the young artists.

Drawings should be made during the 2021-2022 year. Scanned copies of drawings must be in JPEG, PNG, BMP or JPG, A4 format with a resolution of 150dpi.

The works should be free of adult edits.

All entries must be hand-drawn.

Means authorized for the execution of the drawing works.

The following tools are allowed:


Acrylic paints

Oil paints

Indelible markers


Soft ball-point pens

Indelible ink

Pastel or similar means indelible

Pencil, charcoal

The following tools are not allowed:

Artwork by computer

Collages using photocopies


Each work submitted to the contest must be signed on the reverse side, and contain the following information (in the case of delivery of copies scanned, the information is sent as a separate file *.doc or *.txt):

1 Name of work;

2 Last name and first name of the author;

3 Address of the author;

4 Age;

5 Country of residence;

6 Certificate of authorship*.

* Certificate of authorship should be in the form below and must be signed by the applicant's teacher, parent, or any other suitable person.

I / We declare that this work is not carried out or borrowed without anyone or any help. Author - _____________ (Full name of the author.) Signature certifying entity.

Scanned copies could be sent to e-mail: childandcave[@] with a topic “International Contest for children”.

When sending drawing the authors agree that this work can be used by the organizers in the exhibitions, posters, calendars, online and promotional materials to promote caving, of course indicating the author of the work.

Contest winners will receive prizes from the Ukrainian Speleological Association sponsors. The best works will also be published in the journal “The Light”.
